Biggs Cardosa performed a seismic upgrade of an existing four-story concrete parking structure in downtown San Jose. The garage was originally constructed with concrete shear walls and post-tensioned slabs. The original Camera Theater and Kinko’s occupy a portion of the garage’s ground floor. The scope of work included adding new concrete shear walls with micropile foundations, new concrete collector beams, and retrofitting existing concrete collector beams with carbon fiber. In addition, existing two-story concrete gravity columns were wrapped with carbon fiber. The retrofitted structure conforms to the 2001 California Building Code.
