Tom Swayze, PE, SE
PRINCIPAL
Tom Swayze is a highly experienced structural engineer with over 30 years of successful work in the A/E/C industry. After graduating from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo with a degree in Architectural Engineering, Tom began his career engineering commercial buildings. Over the years, his focus expanded to include all types of building and infrastructure projects. Tom specializes in educational and fire station projects and has in-depth knowledge of DSA regulations. His projects have won multiple industry ASCE and ACEC awards including Highway 37 Sonoma Creek Bridge retrofit and widening, Windsor Fire Station, Los Angeles FS 82 (Hollywood HQ), 990 Pacific Public Housing Retrofit in San Francisco for the Chinatown Community Development Center, the Los Banos Community Center Complex, The Sylvester Greenwood Academy and Leadership High Schools in Richmond, and the San Francisco Zoo’s South American Rainforest exhibit.
Tom was appointed a Principal at Biggs Cardosa in 2001 and then took a 15-year hiatus at another firm, where he specialized in projects for public schools, fire and police stations, and public housing projects. Tom also has a great deal of experience in seismic retrofit projects. Tom’s responsibilities include client development, contract negotiations, project staffing and scheduling, supervision of project engineers and draftsmen, quality control and cost control of projects under his supervision. Tom is registered as a Professional (Civil) and Structural Engineer in the State of California.
