US 101 Pedestrian/Bicycle Overcrossing at Adobe Creek, Palo Alto, CA

This pedestrian bike bridge includes a new Class I trail connection, connecting West Bayshore Road to the Baylands Nature Preserve, Byxbee Park, and the San Francisco Bay Trail. It also offers an accessible alternative to an existing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) non-compliant overpass about a mile north of the new bridge. Spanning 1,400 feet between the West and East Bayshore Road landings with a 12-foot-wide pathway, the bridge replaces the Benjamin Lefkowitz underpass, which was only open six months a year, on average, due to seasonal flooding. Biggs Cardosa provided structural design engineering services as well as project management as the prime consultant contracted directly with the City.
