BART Rockridge Station Seismic Retrofit, Oakland, CA

Biggs Cardosa is designing the seismic retrofit of the structure for both a safety and operability criteria as defined by BART for the Earthquake Safety Program. The existing Rockridge BART Station was built in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Retrofits for the project include column casing, footing strengthening, and an isolation detail to avoid damage to the access structures when the main structure displaces under earthquake excitation. The secondary structural components are being evaluated with ASCE 31 for an immediate occupancy criterion, and retrofitted in accordance with FEMA 356.
