Capitol Expressway Light Rail Project, San Jose, CA

Biggs Cardosa led the structural design services for the proposed Capitol Expressway LRT project which consists of a 4900-meter extension of light rail line along Capitol Expressway south of the current Alum Rock Station in San Jose. The project includes two aerial guideway structures with retained fill approaches, two at-grade stations, one aerial station, a pedestrian overcrossing (POC) structure and the associated station access structures. Also included in the project are two operator facility buildings. The project was taken to 90% design in 2008 and was put on hold due to VTA funding constraints.  The VTA restarted the project in 2017 with significant modifications and Biggs Cardosa is providing project management and structural engineering.
