Fresno Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Fresno, CA

The Fresno Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a 13.8 mile BRT project along the Blackstone/Ventura/Kings Canyon corridor. The total estimated cost of the BRT Project is approximately $48 million including bus fleet, professional services, and construction. Biggs Cardosa is providing structural engineering services for 52 bus shelters as a part of the BRT Project. The shelters consist of cantilevered steel frames supporting a suspended translucent polycarbonate roof. The architecture required the use of thin structural roof elements to achieve the desired “floating” appearance of the translucent roof. The project is funded through a variety of sources, including the Federal Transit Authority (FTA) Very Small Starts grant funding, with the State and City matching those funds.
