Colorado Street BridgeBiggs Cardosa was retained to pursue alternative demolition methods to reduce construction costs for the restoration of an historic bridge originally constructed in 1913. Demolition sequences were revised to permit sequential operations from one end towards the other. These alternate sequences required a bracing system to resist large forces caused by unbalanced arch thrusts at the piers. The structure model was modified over 60 times as demolition progressed. |
