Biggs Cardosa provided technical assistance to the Pacific Locomotive Association (PLA) as part of an on-going effort toward having bridges along the Alameda County Niles Canyon Transportation Corridor inspected and evaluated for structural integrity and adequacy to continue train service along this well preserved portion of the First Transcontinental Railroad. The structural scope of work included field reviews and a structural assessment of five bridge structures over 100 years old along the Corridor. The detailed structural report included the assessment of the existing structural conditions, calculated load ratings, identified any potential issues related to train operations and provided maintenance and rehabilitation recommendations with associated conceptual costs.
