The project consisted of the replacement of a 63-foot long bridge over the San Bruno Canal and associated roadway approach improvements on South Airport Boulevard and adjoining North Access Road. The project was federally funded through the Highway Bridge Program (HBP). As the Prime Consultant, Biggs Cardosa provided a Construction Manager and Resident Engineer, and oversaw a team of engineers, special inspectors, materials testing specialists, public outreach specialists, and surveyors as required, and also coordinated the permitting process oversight. The bridge was originally planned to be replaced in two consecutive spring and summer seasons. However, the City decided to close the bridge due to the deteriorated conditions of piles supporting the structure. Biggs Cardosa helped re-plan the construction sequence into a single stage construction which reduced the total construction time to 6 months, requiring only 4 months of bridge closure.
This project was awarded the 2019 CMAA Project Achievement Award for Transportation Projects < $20M.
