Engineering Manager – Orange County and Sacramento Offices

Engineering Manager – Orange County and Sacramento Offices

Job Description:

Registered Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Registered Structural Engineer (SE)  with significant and complex engineering work experience, and responsibility for technical performance of several concurrent small to large or complex projects. Regularly directs, supervises and mentors a team of 4 to 6 engineers and/or technicians.   Establishes design criteria and performs a variety of skilled professional engineering work.  Proficiently applies engineering techniques and procedures, and uses good professional judgment to make modifications or execute complex features or solutions. Demonstrates strong technical proficiency; and good communication, technical writing, organizational, management, team building, and leadership skills. Primary responsibilities include leading, managing and quality assurance of design team production. Responsibilities include direct client contact, administrative and business development tasks, including, cultivating clients and repeat business, business development pursuits, project administration and management, and coordination with approving, regulatory or permitting agencies.      

Typically possesses 10 - 15 years’ experience.  Building Engineering Managers are required to have Structural Engineer (SE) registration.

Job Description:

Registered Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Registered Structural Engineer (SE) with significant and complex engineering work experience, and responsibility for technical performance of several concurrent small-to-medium projects, and designated tasks on large or complex projects. Regularly directs, supervises and mentors a team of 2 to 4 engineers and/or technicians.   Establishes design criteria and performs a variety of skilled professional engineering work in the office or field.  Proficiently applies engineering techniques and procedures, and uses good professional judgment to make modifications or execute complex features or solutions. Demonstrates strong technical proficiency; and good communication, organizational, team building, technical writing and technical leadership skills. Anticipated project types include a wide variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional building projects, of all sizes and construction materials.   Primary responsibilities include leading field reviews, writing technical reports, leading the structural design or check of structural calculations, structural drawings, structural specifications and cost estimating, working with approving agencies for project approvals, overseeing review of construction submittals, and structural observation.  Responsibilities may include direct client contact and some business development, including, cultivating client contact and repeat business, assisting in business development pursuits, assisting in project administration and management of prime contracts , and coordination other engineering and architectural disciplines and regulatory and local agencies.

Job Description:

Registered Professional Engineer (PE) with significant and complex engineering work experience, and responsibility for technical performance of several concurrent small-to-medium projects, and designated tasks on large or complex projects. Regularly directs, supervises and mentors a team of 3 to 5 engineers and/or technicians.   Establishes design criteria and performs a variety of skilled professional engineering work in the office or field.  Proficiently applies engineering techniques and procedures, and uses good professional judgment to make modifications or execute complex features or solutions. Demonstrates strong technical proficiency; and good communication, organizational, team building, technical writing and technical leadership skills. Anticipated project types include a wide variety of bridge and infrastructure projects, for Caltrans, Transportation Agencies, local agencies or developers.  Primary responsibilities include leading field reviews, writing technical reports, leading the structural design or check of structural calculations, structural drawings, structural specifications and cost estimating, working with approving agencies for project approvals, overseeing review of construction submittals, and structural observation.  Responsibilities may include direct client contact and some business development, including, cultivating direct client contact and repeat business, assisting in business development pursuits, assisting in project administration and management of prime contracts , and coordination with approving, regulatory or permitting agencies.

Acts as the technical leader for smaller engineering projects, and works under general supervision for complex projects. Establishes design criteria and performs a variety of skilled professional engineering work in the office or field.  Independently applies standard engineering techniques and procedures, and professional judgment to make modifications or execute complex features or solutions.  Primary responsibilities include preparation of technical reports, construction support, structural design, structural drawings, structural specifications and cost estimating.  Responsibilities may at times include, direct client contact, including cultivating repeat business opportunities, and coordination with approving, regulatory or permitting agencies.

Job Description:

Registered Professional Engineer (PE) with several years of increasingly more complex engineering work experience, and minor supervisory experience.  Works mostly independently under general supervision, establishes basic design criteria and performs a variety of skilled professional engineering work in the office or field.  Independently applies standard engineering techniques and procedures. At times leads an entry level engineer or technician. Demonstrates growing professional judgment to make modifications or execute complex features or solutions.  

Typically possesses  2-5 years’ experience. Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering considered equivalent to one year of relevant full-time engineering work experience.

Job Description:

Recent graduate engineer with Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, and one or more years of engineering work experience. Performs common engineering tasks, requiring application of standard techniques and procedures with minor supervision.  Receives supervision from experienced engineers on non-routine, complex projects and assignments.

Job Description:

Assistant Resident Engineer - Orange County Office

Biggs Cardosa is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer with varying levels of experience for projects in our Orange County Office. The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.


Responsibilities

  • • Provides overall field contract administration and coordination on transportation projects involving bridges, walls, roadways, landscape, utilities, lighting, traffic and traffic signals
  • • Provide oversight of all assigned staff to determine that contractor's construction activities are monitored and controlled in accordance with design specifications and contractual requirements
  • • Build trusted relationships with management team and client’s counterpart staff
  • • Coordinate and manage inspectors
  • • Strong report-writing, communication and managerial skills
  • • Coordinate with contractors and third parties, and resolve field problems in timely fashion.
  • • Expeditiously determine merit and negotiate construction change orders and develop an effective defense against construction claims
  • • Maintain photographic records (clearly labeled and identified) of all work on project before, during, and after construction
  • • Oversee materials testing activities
  • • Review daily inspection reports and other project documentation
  • • Attend and possibly lead construction meetings with client and contractors


Qualifications

  • • PE Required
  • • Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering or Construction Management preferred)
  • • 5+ years of experience in construction inspection or management on infrastructure construction projects (highway/roadway)
  • • Able to perform inspection on site
  • • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • • Must have exceptional ability to read plans and specifications
  • • Ability to read and understand construction schedules
  • • Must maintain quality control at project site
  • • Strong computer skills including competency in Microsoft Office

Construction Inspector (Part-time/Full-time) - Orange County Office

Biggs Cardosa is seeking Construction Inspectors with varying levels of experience for projects in our Orange County Office. The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.


Responsibilities

  • • Inspect projects such as grading and paving, sewers, storm drains, traffic signals, striping, landscaping & irrigation; and other city construction projects on a routine basis; determine quantities and prepare progress and final estimates for public agency construction projects.
  • • Check plans and specifications for conformance to public agency specifications; determine acceptability of materials; ensure that utility companies have been contacted and permits applied for; confirm accuracy of As-Built documents.
  • • Assure survey staking on capital construction projects is coordinated in advance.
  • • Arrange for field and laboratory testing of concrete, rock base, asphalt and other materials; evaluate results of tests.
  • • Coordinate the scheduling of work between contractors, outside agencies, consultants, various City/County departments, other projects, and City activities and events.
  • • Review and provide input on potential change order issues
  • • Prepare and maintain diaries of daily inspections and records for contracted construction projects, including payment quantities, labor compliance, testing results, materials, and required related records by regulatory agencies; maintain and assist in preparing project folders; assist in the preparation of final reports to funding sources.


Qualifications

  • • 5+ years of experience in construction inspection on infrastructure construction projects (highway/roadway)
  • • General knowledge of reading plans, specifications, and schedules
  • • Knowledge of CALTRANS Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, and Construction Manual.
  • • Flexible schedule (should be able to work nights and weekends when required)
  • • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation
  • • General computer skills, including Microsoft Office
